Excited to announce I'll be collaborating with Gus Mayer to show y'all their contemporary lines. I'll be posting some of my favorite looks this week on here and my Instagram. I love this leather crop top by Abbey Glass.

Make sure you tell them Kirby sent you in. :)

In my favorite Ralph Lauren chocolate leather pants.

Happy Friday! x

Fringe Dreams.
Outlaws.
Johnny Cash.
Contrasts.

You know when you put on something and it makes you feel a certain way? This jacket made me want to turn up Johnny Cash and jump in my Mustang. Driving just to drive.

Boots by Saint Laurent

This is another thing I've pulled from the depths of my closet. I was styling a shoot and I pulled this to use for the model but I was immediately inspired to start wearing it again. I love a classic tweed jacket. The color isn't something I would normally pick up for myself which is probably why I love it so much. I also love the subtle studs, they aren't overpowering.

"The unfed mind devours itself" - Gore Vidal

This quote struck me with the force of lightning. Feeding our minds is as important as feeding our bodies. We need pursuit. We need to learn. We are woven tapestries of all that we love and know. What makes us who we are is what we love. We must find what we love and take care of it. Just as we do our body. We must also pursue knowledge that makes us uncomfortable... ideas, places, concepts that stretch our minds. We have to participate. We can't let life pass us by. We can't be spectators. We must dive in. Feed your mind, feed your spirit, feed your soul. What we love connects us with others. As C.S. Lewis said, "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: What? You, too? I thought I was the only one." When we share something we love with someone we are sharing a part of ourself. We are presenting a piece of who we are. Ideas, knowledge, love... these things feed our flames. And we have a responsibility to keep our flames lit. We are the keepers and protectors of our flame.  In the words of Dylan Thomas, "Rage, rage against the dying of the light." Keep your flame ignited. Even through our darkest moments we can still keep our light on. A dim light will still attract a moth. We need to keep reaching, searching, & learning. Do not be idle. Idle minds and idle bodies suffer. Weave your tapestry. Fight for your dreams and happiness. You must feed your mind, body, & spirit.

My sweet Loulou had to make an appearance as well :)

I love playing with layers, textures, and lengths. I wear a lot of black and by mixing different structural elements black becomes a whole new medium. Black isn't boring. Change the way you look at it.

Vintage silk & a well worn leather jacket. This is one of my favorite things to wear. I wear my leather jacket with almost everything but, I especially love the mix of a very feminine silk dress paired with a worn in leather jacket and a good pair of boots.
I bought these boots from Topshop a few years ago and they have been sitting in my closet. I recently pulled them out and remembered how much I loved them!

We are always looking for the key. The key to success, the key to love, the key to happiness. We already have these keys inside of us. And there isn't one simple answer or one key for these things. It is a series of things, a growth, heartbreak and love, winding paths, steep hills, until we reach our destination. The design on this dress reminded me of the Greek Key or Meander. Which is the figure of a labyrinth in linear form that symbolizes infinity and unity. There is an eternal flow inside of us. A flow that wants us to reach all of these keys. Our journeys are full of twists and turns but we have to trust we are on the right one no matter what comes our way. You have what you need already. Be brave enough to face it. A new dress is great but it doesn't change who I am. Clothes are a tool that I use to express myself & protect myself. Clothes are something I use to access the keys inside myself, to unlock my creativity and imagination.

Like Diana Vreeland said, "It’s not about the dress you wear, but it’s about the life you lead in the dress."

Boots are Kurt Geiger

These overalls are making me really happy. I love a good piece that is complete on it's own. I feel like I can run around town or go out in these and not have to think much about what else to wear. This faux fur jacket is one of my favorites from Spanish Moss (one of my favorite online vintage stores!). I can't complain too much about the weather when I get to wear all of my favorite jackets.

There are certain places that have a unique energy. Places where things fall apart and then back into place. Places that shake us to our core. Places where we cry until there are no more tears and laugh until we burst. Places where we are challenged but accepted for who we are, broken pieces in all.  These are places where things shift, in us and around us. Places where walls crumble inside of us forever becoming dust. We are unable to build those walls back up. Doors don't only close but are unhinged. Fears subside. They become powerless. They break one by one. We are broken down until finally we are put back together, stronger than before. You don't want to go back through the old door, you can't. I can't tell you how to access these places. It's something that can only be felt. But I can tell you that you have to be open to it. We reach a new level of freedom with each shift.

a dreamless sleep
 a new day
put on a pretty dress
see a face through the window

even our masks can't hide us
they reveal a truth
we are the makers of the mask

the clouds part
maybe the storms don't follow us because they hate us
but because they love us

even a dim light
will attract a moth

we can't destroy the things we haven't built

I always feel like I'm carefully balancing between fantasy and function. I find a function for the fantasy. Art may not be necessary for our basic human needs but it makes life interesting, it makes life worth living. Fantasy gives us a reason to live. Food, water, shelter, these things are necessary for survival but fantasy and imagination give us meaning to live. (well and love).  I also find fantasy in function. Just as Andy Warhol sought to make ordinary objects art, I seek to make every day a piece of art. I have a desire to make ordinary objects and tasks take on elements of fantasy. Just as Oscar Wilde said, "Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets". The way I dress is an outward representation of these two forces. Levi's I've worn 1000x over and a pair of red patent leather boots, a classic white t-shirt and a crazy colored fur jacket, or this dress (that I have had for ages) paired with my trusty leather boots. We don't have to pick one or the other. We can live in harmony, in contrast, and at battle with these forces. They feed each other.

Hollywood's golden age has always had a hold over me. I grew up hearing tales of my grandfather and great aunt in Hollywood. I always wanted to reach through the screen. I wanted to wear the clothes, I wanted to know the drama, I wanted to feel it all. I wanted life to be in technicolor. I wanted it to be in black and white. I wanted to know the glamour.

When I saw this dress my imagination was whisked away to the silver screen. Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Bennett, Rosalind Russell, Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn, Gene Tierney, Gloria Swanson, Irene  Dunne .... I could go on forever. The ladies who captured my imagination with their craft, their beauty, and worlds they created.

Dress is Stone Cold Fox available here

The 1960s hold and endless fascination for me. There was a period in high school where I only wore black and white and wanted to be Edie Sedgwick. I wanted to be a part of The Factory. I wanted to have a screen test, float with silver balloons, sling paint with Andy, & dance to the Velvet Underground. I would wear my tights and leotard out after dance class just like I had read Edie used to do. I would search for anything and everything to read or watch about her or that specific moment in history. My room was painted black and I had Andy's artwork all over the walls.

I must admit I was charmed...seeing that world only through rose colored glasses. I would still like to time travel but I've learned to be grateful for the time I live in. And nothing is as great as it might seem. When I was 16/17 I saw something in Edie that I connected with. A sort of lost girl. The original name for my blog was The Lost Muse. I connected to that spirit. Now I may no longer connect in the way I used to that time still holds a special place in my heart and is a great source of inspiration.

My coat is Mango (3 years ago) & boots are Zara.
