I think I've been looking at too many Chloé ads recently. I'm drawn to the dreaminess that their ads always capture. I bought this Vince top and Benetton skirt second hand a few years ago. My aunt always gives me her coolest belts and this is one of my favorites.

Sometimes it is after I put on an outfit that I create a story in my head. We found this old gate on the edge of an almost abandoned parking lot. I love creating stories in my head about abandoned homes. I think this outfit compliments the mystery that goes with the abandoned gate. My blog has allowed me to discover new places in my own city. Places that I probably wouldn't have gone too otherwise. I have a few go-to locations but when I find myself getting too comfortable in one area I move (even if it is to just another white wall, I love white walls). When I ordered this top from H&M it reminded me a little of dance costumes from the 1940s. I love the touch of red that this Free People scarf gives the outfit. This bag was given to me from my grandmother a few years ago but I used to play dress up with it when I was little. It is one of my favorite bags and I love how Louis Vuitton is doing similar trunk bags now! As soon as I saw them on the runway I immediately thought of this one.

Oh, velvet pants. I am sorry I had thrown you to the depths of my unwanted clothing drawer. What was I thinking?? They are slightly too big and a little sheer...but wow they are amazing. I got them from ASOS about 4 years ago. Needless to say they are now proudly hanging in my closet and I plan to wear them a lot this fall and winter.

Every once in a while H&M really hits a home run. This kimono jacket is one of those. I've always loved tapestries and intricate embroidery. This jacket is like my own wearable tapestry. If I can't be in a medieval castle or wander through a museum wearing something that makes me feel like that is the next best. I have a few antique and vintage embroidered kimonos that were handed down to me from my grandmother but this is a more wearable option.

Worn with my favorite Alexander McQueen heels.

The 1970s, for me, will always have a warmth. A glow of the sunlight that is unlike any other decade. I know that my idea is clouded by film, technicolor, old polaroid photographs, the scratch of a record... but that idea that there is a glow and a warmth will always stay with me even if it is not the reality. The way that the sunlight is captured in these photographs reminds me of that glow.

I love looking at Prada ads from the 1990s and I had those in mind when I was putting this outfit together and searching for a location. I love the muted pink of his wall. It is actually the wall to one of my favorite art supply stores. I remember going to the store all the time as a child and picking out paints, pastels, and charcoal. It will forever hold a special place in my heart. Art was a huge part of my life growing up(and still is). Our bookshelves were filled with art books and there were always baskets of art supplies everywhere around our house. Prada is also another favorite of my family and a brand that I grew up loving. I love being able to combine things I love and that are close to me in an outfit. Getting dressed is more than just clothing to me. It's how I express myself and tell a story even if that story isn't obvious.

I can feel the air start to change. There is nothing like a southern summer thunderstorm. Sometimes I like to blast Bach or Stravinsky and open the windows during the storm. Most of the time I like to read or put on a good film. But I always want to wear a kimono. Kimonos are the perfect elegant but comfortable thing to wear. Next time a thunderstorm happens...put on a kimono, turn up the Bach, and run around your house.

I want to share some words from one of my favorite musician/writers, Nick Cave. This is the ending scene to 20,000 Days on Earth.

"All of our days are numbered. We cannot afford to be idle. To act on a bad idea is better than to not act at all, because the worth of an idea never becomes apparent until you do it. Sometimes this idea can be the smallest thing in the world-- a little flame that you hunch over, and cup with your hand, and pray will not be extinguished by all the storm that howls about it. If you can hold on to that flame, great things can be constructed around it that are massive, powerful, and world changing. All held up by the tiniest of ideas."

I live for velvet. I'm longing for the days when I can lounge in my velvet suits and read Proust on a velvet couch. I love scouring antique stores for antique and vintage velvet. There is something about blue velvet as well. The way that it catches the light. These pants remind me of the way the sea looks when the moon light hits it. It is still too hot and humid to be comfortable in velvet but paired with this simple tee it works for cooler summer nights (where you might be inside more than out). I've had these pants for years. There is no label but they sure are amazing.

We're in the last days of summer. I sit in my room listening to the Rolling Stones and the buzz of crickets outside my window. Summer used to mean something different to me. It was a seemingly endless freedom. Late nights, balmy air, creeks, oceans, & rooftop talks. Make believe and adventure. I knew for at least two months every year I was free to be an adventurer. My summer breaks have ben gone for a few years now but I still hold them in my heart. I miss the days of long breaks but I have found out I don't have to wait for a season to adventure or explore. Now it is my life. My time isn't defined by a season or a few monts. Every day holds a new possibility. When you use your imagination... the ordinary isn't as ordinary as you once thought. Take a step outside... or inside. See what is waiting for you on the other side of fear.

Rose gardens and long white dresses are two of my favorite things.

I love this crazy jumpsuit. It was love at first sight.

I can't remember where I found this Patti Smith tee but I love it. Patti is one of my favorite writers of all time. If you haven't read Just Kids... do it. Of course I love her music as well. Patti sparked my love for Rimbaud. I bought Just Kids when I was living in London and I remember being so inspired by the book that I filled up journals with writing.
I'm wearing my favorite Madewell Jeans, my trusty leather jacket from Italy, & my favorite Isabel Marant boots.
